It turns out that Canadian laws against incitement of hatred were written to protect minorities, and do not include women: Blog inciting hatred against women ruled legal.

Date: April 2nd, 2010 12:37 pm (UTC)I suppose it would make too much sense for the law to be against incitement of hatred, full stop, and not consider whether the target was a minority or majority or anything in between. In fact, one doesn't even need to be part of the target group to still perceive the material as stupid and offensive. But I'm not comfortable with cutting into freedom of speech either; if we start handing out muzzles eventually what goes around comes around and we'll find out we slighted someone's feelings.
(And I guess I should suppose too that being born a white male meant that I never held any great expectation that minority-protection laws were ever going to do anything to help me in the first place.)
